Character Name Poll
Wednesday, February 08, 2006

Since most of us are "guardies" and have preconceived notions of majorettes, I need some help naming a main character -- who will be a majorette.  I've thought of a young adult mystery series set in the world of band.  I'm not sure what she does, but the main character's (the majorette) best friend will be named Sasha.

Which name sounds most like it belongs to a majorette?

Maisie
Chelsea
Madison (Madi)
Zoey
Becca

Catching Up
Saturday, February 04, 2006

This will be a bit of a catch-up post.  I'm not uber-busy per se, just several things happening.

First, Carter is 18 months, which I cannot believe.  It just doesn't seem like he should be that old.  He's growing way too fast!  I took him to the doctor on Friday.  Doc asked if Travis was a football player because Carter is apparently quite stout.  Doc said Carter would either be a football player or wrestler.

Carter is also 'talking' more.  At least I pretend he's talking.  He makes sounds and I reply with what I think he said.  He did say "roll ball" last weekend (he spent almost the entire weekend rolling balls up and down our hallway).  Again, he may not be saying that at all but who knows.

Second, I've accepted a freelance editor position for an e-publisher.  I'm really excited about it and nervous too.

My own book is coming along well.  In all my years at UT, I've never been to Jessie Harris (which is the meeting point between the two main characters) so I've got to scout the location in case I haven't described it adequately.

Third, I'm keeping track of all the books I read this year.  My goal is to read 50 books; thus far in 2006, I've read 10:

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Dark Lover by J.R. Ward
Heart of the Dragon by Gena Showalter
Rebel Angels by Libba Bray
Grave Sight by Charlaine Harris
Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vadar by James Lucerno
Labyrinth of Evil by James Lucreno
Undead and Unreturnable by MaryJanice Davidson
Bitten by Kelley Armstrong
Jewel of Atlantis by Gena Showalter

Everyone should play along too!!

Just in Time For Band Camp
Friday, January 20, 2006

One of my new writerly friends, Jennifer Echols, has a young adult (YA) book releasing August 1st.  Jenn's a band geek (or a former band geek) like most of those who read this blog, so I thought I'd give a little shout out to her release.

Sick of the East-Central Alabama pageant circuit, VIRGINIA SAUTER the Beauty Queen gets her nose pierced, stops wearing shoes, and tries out for drum major of the high school marching band. She wins, but she has to share the title with one of the Morrow boys, who have the position tied up like the Mafia. Virginia figures the next shoes she wears may be cement. Until DREW MORROW shows her what it's like to make out on a tractor.

Virginia already has a boyfriend wanna-be. And Drew is dating one of the EVIL TWINShe's just not sure which one. It takes an explosive new band director, scarlet fever on the eve of the SAT, bad blue eyeliner, and a pageant trophy the size of a refrigerator for Drew and Virginia to realize they make a very good team.

Question
Thursday, January 05, 2006

All of you that attended/previously attended UT, I need a location for my current work in progress.

What is the darkest place you can think of on campus that isn't a parking garage and would be accessible to students after 5 pm?

Huh?
Sunday, December 18, 2005

I'm not sure I like the new entry format of Blogdrive.  Lots more 'gadgets' but does more gadgets equal better blog appearance?  I just don't know.

And can it really be almost Chrismas?  One week.  It just doesn't seem possible and though I'm really finished with shopping, I cannot help feel like I need some last minute gifts, like I forgot someone.
